Chico Hamilton

I must admit I've never been familiar with the work of Chico Hamilton. However he was a very versatile drummer and musician often setting out on his own projects, not often in the picture of the mainstream jazz public.

He was engaged to the likes of Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus to name a view. Hamilton also had a foot in West Coast, hard bop even avant-garde. In the mid sixties he set up his own production company scoring soundtracks for movies, commercials, documentaries, etc. Maybe it's time for some research on this often neglected musician.
